Abstract :
Composite is a material that is formed from a combination of two or more forming
materials and has different properties from its constituent components. The use of composites
has grown rapidly because composites have their own advantages compared to other
alternative engineering materials such as composite materials that are stronger, resistant to
corrosion, more economical and so on. Composites consist of a matrix that functions as an
adhesive or binder and reinforcement (reinforcement / fiber).
The materials of this research are woven carbon fiber and resin lycal 1011 with balsa
wood as the core. The method used in this manufacture of the sandwich composite is the hand
lay-up method. Specimens are made from core thickness of 6mm, 8mm dan 10mm by using
standard ASTM C-393.
The results of this study indicate the value of the strength of the sandwich composite
bending test with woven carbon fiber material with a core thickness of 6mm, 8mm dan 10mm.
the test results show that the strongest is a material with a thickness of 8mm obtaining a
maximum load value of 30.496 kgf, with a power of 30.78705741 MPa
