Abstract :
The Wind Tunnel is a tool used in aerodynamic research to study airflow
characteristics. Wind tunnels are used to simulate the actual condition of an object
that is under the influence of aerodynamic forces in the field of aeronautics, to
analyze the performance of flight mechanics. The wind tunnel consists of several
main parts, namely: contraction cone, settling chamber, test section, diffuser and
fan.
This study uses Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to see the air flow
rate in the diffuser. In the diffuser manufacturing process using the sawing
method in the cutting process and also going through several stages in the
manufacturing process so that a diffuser is formed in accordance with the
geometry that has been obtained. The process of selecting the fan used in the wind
tunnel is seen from the aspects of price, fan specifications, product quality, and
product availability.
Based on the results of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), it can be
seen that the velocity distribution and pressure distribution at the diffuser outlet
are inversely proportional to the diffuser function. The process of diffuser
manufacturing starts from drawing patterns, cutting processes, sanding or sanding
processes, providing wood filler, assembly, staining, finishing. After going
through a market study process for the type of fan that suits the needs of low-
speed wind tunnel, a fan that is suitable for the test section size is 40x40 cm.
