Abstract :
Distillation devices can help to overcome the scarcity of fresh water in the
coastal areas. With the distillation system, seawater can be made into fresh water
by separating the water with the salt component by evaporating the seawater and
catching the vapor that it can produce clean and fresh water. Using loop lenses
on the distillation devices aims to help to heat the water on the collector that
increases the number of condensate water and the efficiency of distillers.
The distillation devices used in this research has a collector area of 0.5391
m2 and used stainlees steel plate. The study was conducted for 5 days and started
from 10.00 a.m until 3.30 p.m. In one day, the distilled water was 3000 ml. The
data collection was taken once in every 30 minutes.
The distillation of seawater with loop lens had the lowest efficiency of
17.5% and the highest efficiency of 21.9%. In 3000 ml of seawater tested the
amount of distilled water produced was at least 1020 ml and the largest distilled
water was 1430 ml.
