Abstract :
Utilizing of solar energy as a source of renewable energy should be
encouraged in order to conserve the use of fossil energy sources in which
decreasing in terms of stock. One of the efforts to utilize solar energy source is
using solar water heater. This research aimed to investigate the performance of
solar water heater to increase the water temperature.
A testing was conducted to design the solar water heater with the collector
size of 105.6 cm x 117.6 cm using a black painted aluminum-coated styrofoam
insulator. In conducting the testing, the data were taken at 10.00 a.m until 04.00
p.m with sufficient sunlight intensity (not cloudy).
The analysis and discussion showed the solar water heater design used to
perform the performance test (efficiency). In the test, it was identified the collector
efficiency of 15.564% to 49.881% and the energy efficiency values of 20.38% to
40.88%.
