Abstract :
Plasma nitriding is known as surface hardening. This process is carried out by adding nitrogen elements to the surface. This study aims to determine the variation of plasma nitriding time and temperature on the hardness of the compressor blade. The parameters used are time 2 hours, 3 hours, 4 hours and temperature 300?, 400? at a constant pressure of 1.6 mbar. Repair is carried out before testing the specimen. Hardness testing using a micro hardness tester with an initial average hardness value of 174.04 VHN. Hardness after plasma nitriding with time parameters of 2 and 3 hours did not increase significantly. Optimum hardness was obtained with a time of 4 hours with a value of 325.18 VHN (an increase of 151.14% from the raw material). The increase in temperature from 300? to 400? in the plasma nitriding process with a time range of 3 to 4 hours resulted in a decrease in surface hardness to 260.6 VHN. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) testing measures the thickness of the layer formed on the cross section of the material. The maximum thickness is 2.62 ?m and the minimum thickness is 595 nm
