Abstract :
Background : Hypertension is a condition where a person experiences an increase in blood pressure above normal (> 120/80 mmHg). According to South Sumatra BPS data, in 2020 it is estimated that there are 645,104 people with hypertension, and the estimated number of people with hypertension in the city of Palembang is 255,449 people. Uncontrolled hypertension can cause serious damage to the heart and can harden the arteries, reducing the flow of blood and oxygen to the heart. The possibility of these circumstances can cause anxiety for sufferers. One way to reduce anxiety can be relaxation techniques, namely progressive muscle relaxation techniques. Objective : This study aims to determine the results of applying progressive muscle relaxation techniques to reducing anxiety levels in people with hypertension. Methods : Quantitative research using descriptive case study method with the One Group Pretest-Posttest approach, the number of respondents in this study was 2 people. Result : The results of this study indicate that there is a significant difference in anxiety levels between before and after being given progressive muscle relaxation therapy, namely respondent 1 from a score of 21 to 13, and respondent 2 from a score of 22 to 12. Suggestion : For future researchers, it is hoped that they can develop this research with the addition of anxiety factor variables and different timeframes to find out the different results of applying progressive muscle relaxation.
