Abstract :
Background: DM is a metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia which
can occur due to the inability of the pancreas to produce insulin at all and unable
to use insulin effectively. DM sufferers should receive special education about
circulation, self-examination, protection and daily foot examination. DM sufferers
must maximize blood flow to the feet.
Purpose: Knowing the difference in the level of knowledge before and after being
given education on early detection of ulcers in people with diabetes mellitus
Method: Using a one group pretest-posttest pre-experiment with a sample of 53
respondents taken by accidental sampling technique. Data collection was carried
out using a questionnaire and providing health education. The data analysis
technique used is the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, the educational method uses
leaflet media.
Results: The majority of respondents were 27 (50.9%) aged >55 years, 41
(77.4%) female, with an elementary school education level of 17 (32.1%) and 9
(17.0%) of 6 years of suffering. Knowledge before 34 (64.2%) knowledge after 41
(77.4%). The results of the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test showed differences in the
level of knowledge before and after being given education on early detection of
ulcers in patients with DM p-value 0.000 <0.05.
Suggestion: The results of this study are expected so that respondents can carry
out early detection independently, by being given education so that respondents
can apply it at home independently.
