Abstract :
Background : Elderly is someone aged 60 years or more who shows impaired
physiological adaptation to body functions, organs and systems, one of which is
mental health. Mental health is a health condition that can cause changes in the
feelings, thoughts and behavior of older people.
Objective : Knowing the picture of mental health in the elderly in social
institutions for the elderly is our hope indralaya.
Method : Using a quantitative descriptive design with an elderly population
living in social institutions with a sample of 49 respondents, total sampling
technique. The measuring instrument used was a mini mental state examination
observation sheet and the data was analyzed using a frequency distribution.
Results : The average age of the respondents was 70.82 years, 22 (44.9%) male,
while 27 (55.1%) female. There were 21 (42.9) people in the bad category of
mental health, 19 (38.8%) people in the moderate category and 9 (18.4%) people
in the good category.
Suggestion : It is hoped that the orphanage staff can carry out a review of mental
health or conduct a more accurate study on the elderly at the Harapan Kita
Indralaya Social Institution.
