Abstract :
Background : Stroke can cause constipation due to attacks on the autonomic nervous system which is disrupted so that the intestinal muscles experience weakness in intestinal peristalsis. Decreased peristaltic function results in disruption of the gastrointestinal tract which causes constipation which can trigger recurrent strokes. Objective : To determine the relationship between consuming fibrous foods and the incidence of constipation in stroke patients at RSI Siti Khadijah Palembang. Methods :This study used a total sampling technique of 36 respondents. The research instrument used a questionnaire. Variabel limits in this study consisted of independent variables, namely the consumption of fibrous foods and the dependent variable the incidence of constipation in stroke patients. This type of research is a type of quantitative research with a Cross Sectional research design and using bivariate analysis with the Kendall Tau B statistical test. Result :Characteristics of full adult respondents were 23 respondents (63.9%), female sex were 21 respondents (58.3%) and stroke duration less than 1 year were 21 respondents (58.3%).Consuming fibrous foods in stroke patients at the RSI Siti Khadijah Palembang polyclinic was mostly in the sufficient category with 28 respondents (77.8%) of a total of 36 respondents.The incidence of constipation in stroke stroke patients at the RSI Siti Khadijah Palembang polyclinic was the majority in the category of experiencing constipation in types 1-2 with a total of 24 respondents (66.7%) out of a total of 36 respondents.From the results of the Kendall Tau statistical test, it was found that the ?=0,153 p value was 0.339, which means that there is a relationship between consuming fibrous foods and the incidence of constipation in stroke patients with a moderate correlation strength with a positive relationship. Suggestion : It is expected that respondents will consume more fibrous foods to prevent constipation. KeyWords : Constipation, Fibrous food, Stroke
