Abstract :
Background : To improve the quality of life of patients who are in a terminal
condition or patients who are heading towards death, knowledge about End of Life
Care is needed which is important for nursing care providers to have, so as to provide
comfort for patients when they are approaching death.
Objective : To determine the description of nurses' knowledge about End of Life Care
in the adult inpatient ward at Siti Fatimah Regional Hospital, South Sumatra
Province.
Method : Research design with a quantitative descriptive survey approach. The
respondents in this study were nurses in the Adult Inpatient Room at Siti Fatimah
Regional Hospital, South Sumatra Province. Samples were taken from 50 respondents
using a questionnaire.
Results : After collecting data using a questionnaire to 50 respondents from 30
December 2023 to 6 January 2024, the results showed that the age frequency
distribution of respondents was Fully Adult (26-65 years) with 40 respondents (80%).
Frequency Distribution of Gender of respondents, namely female, 37 respondents
(74%). Educational Frequency Distribution: 27 respondents (54%) had a previous
education as a nurse. Frequency Distribution of Respondents' Working Period,
namely 41 respondents (82%) had a working period of 1-5 years. Frequency
Distribution of Knowledge: 27 respondents (54%) had a sufficient level of knowledge
about End of Life Care.
Suggestion : For nurses and hospital institutions to be a motivation in improving
services related to end of life care for patients, especially for terminal or dying
patients.
