ABSTRACT
This study aimed to increase students? reading comprehension of narrative text by
using folklore of the junior high school students. The researcher used Indonesia
folklore to increase reading comprehension because it is familiar, interesting, and
easy to understand by junior high school students. Based on the result of interview, it
was found that the students had difficulties in reading, writing, listening and
speaking. This research was conducted based on preliminary findings which showed
students? weakness in reading. The participants of this research were the eighth
grader of junior high school students. This research used a pre-experimental design
with one group only. Pre-test, post-test, and questionnaire were instruments which
used for collecting the data. The data were analyzed by using non-parametric statistic
and descriptive statistics.
