ABSTRACT
In the era of globalization, English has been determined to be one of the
international languages used as a means of communication. English also has
become a necessity for most people in Indonesia. It also has a relation to the use
of language laboratories in achieving more effective English skills because by the
use of language laboratory, students are very helpful in learning English faster
because they learn in the room and use interesting media. The aim of this study
was to find out the correlation between the use of language laboratory and the
English achievement of tenth grade students at one of Private Vocational High
School in Palembang. One hundred students were involved in this study as the
sample. They were selected by using stratification random sampling technique. To
collect data regarding questionnaire about language laboratory use was
administered as the instrument of this study. Questionnaire and students' English
scores were analyzed by using Pearson product moment. The results revealed that
there was significant correlation between language laboratory use and English
achievement. Therefore, this study emphasized that involving language laboratory
into the English learning activities would bring beneficial impacts for both
teachers and students.
