ABSTRACT
This thesis entitled "The Correlation between Vocabulary Mastery and Reading
Comprehension of Tenth Grade Students at A Private Senior High School in
Palembang". The main purpose of this study was to find out whether there was any
correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension of the tenth grade
students of a private school in Palembang. In addition, it aimed to identify students?
perceptions toward the correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading
comprehension. In this study, ninety four tenth grade students involved as samples
selected by using purposive sampling technique. To conduct this quantitative study,
correlational design was used. Test and questionnaire were used to collect the data. The
data were analyzed by using Pearson Product Moment and Descriptive Analysis. The
results of the data analysis showed that there was a significant correlation between
vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension of tenth grade students at a private
senior high school Palembang. In line with it, students? perceptions toward the
correlation between the variables were also positive. The students believed that
vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension are interrelated.
