Abstract :
This study deals with politeness in language based on gender, which is usually used
by men and women when interacting at school. The purpose of this study is to
describe language politeness in interactions between students based on gender at
SDN 166 Palembang. This research is descriptive qualitative research. The
sampling technique was carried out by purposive sampling. The subjects in this
study were students at SDN 166 Palembang. Data collection techniques are carried
out using observation (observation), recording, and recording (optional). Data
analysis techniques are done by triangulation. The results showed that male
research subjects used eight politeness indicators that had been applied, namely
indirect speech, use of pleasantries, paying attention to the preferences, desires,
and needs of the interlocutor, using greeting words, avoiding disagreement, giving
and asking for reasons, exhibiting a pessimistic attitude, and minimizing coercion
and nonverbal language. The female research subjects only used seven of the
politeness indicators that had been applied, namely indirect speech, use of
pleasantries, paying attention to the preferences, desires, and needs of the
interlocutor, using greeting words, giving and asking for reasons, showing a
pessimistic attitude, and minimizing coercion and nonverbal language.
