Abstract :
Background: Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 is a condition where there are not enough beta
cells to make insulin so that it can cause hyperglycemia. The first treatment for this type
of diabetes mellitus is by taking medication and supported by diet. Compliance in taking
medication and diet in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is still not well
implemented. Some phenomena of non-compliance in taking medication and diet in type
2 Diabetes Mellitus are that there are still patients who forget to take drugs, stop taking
drugs and do not regulate their diet.
Purpose: This study aims to explore the experiences of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
patients in consuming drugs and diet
Method: The design of this study used a qualitative method with a descriptive approach
to 5 participants with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in the work area the Plaju Health
Center and with descriptive analysis techniques.
Results: The themes that emerged from the results of the study were 2 themes, namely
the characteristics of drugs that are management of drug consumption and diet
management, and obtained 11 sub themes, namely drugs consumed, obstacles to taking
drugs, symptoms that arise when not taking drugs, supporting factors in taking drugs,
efforts to taking medication, frequency and time of eating, eating menu, dietary
restrictions, eating arrangements, obstacles in regulating eating patterns and efforts in
regulating eating patterns.
Suggestion: It is expected to remain obedient in consuming anti-Diabetes Mellitus
drugs in accordance with the recommendations that have been given, and to continue to
pay attention to the appropriate diet so that there is no increase in blood glucose and
complications of Diabetes Mellitus.
