Abstract :
Background : Laboratory examinations, especially leukocyte examination, are requested by many clinicians in an effort to help establish a diagnosis. The problem at the Sekip Health Center was that during the medical examination of prospective Hajj pilgrims, the leukocyte examination had to be postponed for 20 hours at a temperature of 2 ? 8 C due to the large number of samples and limited laboratory personnel. The theory states that EDTA blood samples are only stable for 2 hours at room temperature and if the sample cannot be examined immediately, it must be stored at 4 C. Objective : To find out the difference in the results of the EDTA blood leukocyte examination which was immediately examined and which was delayed for 20 hours at a temperature of 2-8 C. Methods : This type of research is a quantitative research with a pre- experimental research design. The sample used was in Sekip Health Center employees The sampling technique used total sampling. The data that had been obtained were analyzed using the Shapiro Wilk test. Results : In the examination of the amount of EDTA blood leukocyte levels in samples that were immediately examined obtained a mean value of 7.5 x 103 /µL, deviation of and the number of leukocytes that were delayed 20 hours at a temperature of 2-80 C an average of 7.4 103 / L. The results of the Shafiro-Wilk test obtained that the probability value of the amount of blood to be immediately examined was p = 0.352 (p > 0.05), which indicated that the data was normal. Meanwhile, the results of the normality test of blood stored for 20 hours at a temperature of 2-8 is p = 0.457 (p>0.05) which indicates that the data is normally distributed. Conclusion : There is no difference in the results of the EDTA blood leukocyte examination which was immediately examined and which was delayed for 20 hours at a temperature of 2 ? 8 C with a probability value of 0,270 Suggestion : Further research is recommended to use samples stored at a temperature of 2?8 C for more than 20 hours..
