Abstract :
Background: Laboratory examination consists of three stages, namely the pre-analytic stage, the analytical stage and the post-analytic stage. One of the pre-analytical factors that affect the results of the examination is the administration of anticoagulants. In the examination of platelets, if the volume of blood inserted into the vacutainer tube is less than the amount of anticoagulant contained in the vacutainer tube, the platelets will enlarge and disintegrate so that the test results will be falsely low. Objective: The aim of this study was to determine whether there was a difference in the number of platelets in a 0.5 ml volume blood sample with K2EDTA anticoagulant and 0.5 ml EDTA micro-tubes. Methods: This research was conducted on 40 subjects who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria with the type of research used, namely the pre-experimental "One Shot Case Study". The research sample was treated to separate the volume of the sample, as much as 0.5 ml was inserted into the K2EDTA tube and 0.5 ml was inserted into the EDTA miro tube and then the platelet count was examined. Research Results: Based on the results of the study, the average number of platelets in the 0.5 ml K2EDTA tube was 309 g/l and the average platelet count in the EDTA micro tube was 293 g/l. The results of the examination were then statistically tested using Wilcoxon, the value of p = 0.277 (p > 0.05). Conclusion: There is no difference in the results of the examination of the platelet count in 0.5 ml K2EDTA tubes and 0.5 ml EDTA micro tubes. Suggestion: Based on this study, normal patients with platelet count examination can use 0.5 ml K2EDTA Tube or 0.5 ml Micro EDTA, but further research is recommended to conduct research using other anticoagulants.
