Description of Knowledge of Sexuality in Mentally Retarded Adolescents in
Mother Palembang Special School (SLB)

Background : Sexual knowledge for children with special needs (ABK) is very
important to be given from an early age because children with special needs have
the same development as other children. Children with special needs are very
vulnerable to becoming victims of sexual harassment, especially mentally retarted
youth.
Purpose : To know the description of the level of knowledge of sexuality in
mentally retarded adolescents in special school made by Palembang mothers
Methods : The type of research used is quantitative with descriptive methods. The
analysis used is univariate. The population terget in the study was 67 people, and
the research sampel was 30 respondents with the sampling technique using total
sampling. The instrument used in this research is a questionnaire.
Result : The mean age of the respondents was 17,07, with a minimum age of 14
years and a maximum age of 20 years. There were more male respondents,
namely 16 people (53,3%), while 14 people wele female (46.7%). Respondents
with junior high school education were 16 (53,3%) and respondents with high
school education were 14 respondents (46,7%). Respondent who have sufficiently
more knowledge are as many as 22 people (73.3), 7 people (23.3%) lacking
knowledge, and 1 person (3.3%) has good knowledge
Suggestion : For metally retarded adolescents, they increase knowledge about
sexuality so that they can understand the consequences and ways to prevent
unwanted things from occurring.
