Abstract :
Background: Stool examination is performed to determine the presence of eggs. Examination of feces in the laboratory which is often carried out is the examination of feces microscopically, one of the methods for this purpose is sedimentation. According to WHO in 2003, the feces used for the sedimentation method are about 0.5 grams or the tip of the stick. Feces with a small amount of positivity level will be lower, to get a high level of positivity, more stool samples are used. This research was conducted to determine the differences in the results of examining worm eggs in some feces and feces that are more numerous Method: The type of study used is pre-experimental. The method used was sedimentation. This research was conducted in the parasitology laboratory at Musi Charitas Catholic University. The subjects of this study were children suspected of having worms at TPA Sukawinatan RT 68 RW 10 Palembang. The sample that checked was 15 samples, consisting of 9 women and 6 men with a vulnerable age of 5-10 years. Samples were examined in two ways, namely part of the feces or about 0.5 grams and feces that were more or about 10 grams. Results: The results of the examination in part of the stool were 7 positive samples (47%) and 8 negative samples (53%). Whereas in the larger number of feces there were 12 positive samples (80%) and 3 negative samples (20%). The results of the Willcoxon Signed Ranks Test showed a significant difference in the two treatments, namely the value sig= 0.032 < 0.05. Conclusion: Based on the research, it can be concluded that there are differences in the results of examining worm eggs in some feces and feces with the sedimentation method.
