AN ANALYSIS OF IAN WYNDAMÂ’S SACRIFICE TO HIS GIRLFRIEND ON JIL JUNGERÂ’S FILM IF ONLY

Abstract :
Sacrifice is one of good deed which needs to belong to people as human beings. Besides, sacrifice sometimes needs to do to get what men want. This study focused on sacrifice in If Only film. This film contains good lessons for the reader, especially about the sacrifice to save someoneÂ’s life. The purposes of this study were to explain the reasons of Ian WyndhamÂ’s sacrifice to his girlfriend, to describe the efforts of Ian WyndhamÂ’s sacrifice to his girlfriend, and to dig out the results of Ian WyndhamÂ’s sacrifice to his girlfriend. The design of this study was qualitative research because this study dealt with social phenomena, namely sacrifice, and this study did not present the data in numerical analysis, but in the form of words. Objective approach was used in this study because in analyzing the film, the writer did not consider the authorÂ’s life and the age of the film was made. It was only focused on the content of the film itself which contained Sacrifice. In collecting the data, the writer watched the If Only film for several times, chose the data dealing with sacrifice, identified which data were categorized into sacrifice, selected the data which were related to the purpose of the study, and rewrote all of the data about sacrifice exposed in the film. The finding showed that the reasons of Ian WyndhamÂ’s sacrifice to his girlfriend were that Ian did not want to lose Samantha, and Ian loved her very much. The efforts of Ian WyndhamÂ’s sacrifice to his girlfriend were that Ian Wyndham tried to appreciate her, Ian Wyndham ignored his own job, Ian Wyndham protected her, and Ian avoided the things would happen in order to be different with his dream. Ian WyndhamÂ’s sacrifice brought the result, namely: Ian Wyndham died in the car accident. In conclusion, If Only film presented the story about a man who regretted seeing his girlfriend died in his dream. Thus, when he got the second chance, he did sacrifice for his girlfriend because of love.
