Abstract :
The main objective of this study is that the researcher wants to investigate the potential problem and possible solution in implementing competence-based curriculum in SMKN in Malang. The design of this study is descriptive research. The population of this study is all of headmasters and vice headmasters of SMKN in Malang. The sample of this study is taken by purposive sampling technique. The sample is SMKN 3 and SMKN 4 Malang. The real sample is 2 headmasters and 8 vice headmasters. The instrument used in this research is an unstructured interview. After the researcher collects and analyzes the data, there are potential problems and possible solution in implementing competence-based curriculum in SMKN 3 and 4 Malang. SMKN 3 Malang has one more potential problem. It is the teacher’s availability. This school still needs one productive teacher at the Department of Entrepreneurship and the Department of Competence-based Training. Meanwhile, SMKN 4 Malang has three potential problems. They are financial resources, facilities, and teacher’s availability. The financial resources of SMKN 4 Malang are so limited since school autonomy is implemented. The facilities, especially laboratory equipments are insufficient. Besides, this school is also lack of teacher’s availability. This school does not have the productive teacher graduated from S1 graphic department. The Department of Graphic Preparation needs 2 productive teachers, so does the Department of Graphic Production.
