Abstract :
This study concerns about internet slang words used in 9GAG- Just for Fun site. This study proposes two problems. The researcher focus on five categories internet slang words and then tries to draw the meaning of internet slang words. Data has taken from blog site www.9gag.com. Hopefully, this study will useful for English department, especially to help the other researcher to understand internet slang words. Sociolinguistics has an important role in describing the problem for this study. Sociolinguistics is the study of the ways people use a language in social interaction. In sociolinguistics have language variety that connected with slang. Slang is represented in virtual communication enormously. In fact, internet slang has become a part of people in their everyday life thatÂ’s why the researcher used 9GAG- Just for Fun site to this study. In conducting this study, the researcher uses descriptive qualitative research design to know the internet slang words and tries to draw out the meaning internet slang words which are found in 9GAGERS. The object of this study was internet slang used in 9GAG- Just for Fun site. These objects are taken from site http://9gag.com/ that data was downloaded on February 20th, 2012-March 18th, 2012. The writer is the key of instrument in collecting the data. Beside of that, the researcher used document analysis as an additional instrument because the data collected from the pictures site that followed some words. It focused on collecting the data about internet slang words from the pictures. The result of this study shows that the writer found most of the internet slang in 9GAG- Just for Fun site. The writer also gets some meaning from internet slang words in 9GAG- Just for Fun site. The reason 9GAGERS used internet slang because is to be familiar and intimate in conversing with their community. 9GAGERS used internet slang because 9GAG is community of internet share people. So it is possible if there internet slang on their conversation. First of all, this study suggested to the lecture for getting some information about internet slang word in teaching sociolinguistics. Secondly, it suggested for the student to get some knowledge by reading this research. The last, it also suggest for the other researcher to do a research about the other internet slang word in other site, blog, facebook, twiter or other resources.
