Abstract :
Keyword : jargon, political jargon, presidential election The study sought to investigate the following problems: (1) What are political jargons used by Barack ObamaÂ’s Campaign for The US Presidential Election? (2) What are the meanings of political jargons used by Barack ObamaÂ’s Campaign for the US Presidential Election? A descriptive qualitative research design was used in this study, and the data were collected by observation and document analysis.The steps of collecting data included selecting videos, watching videos, seeking the transcripts, making a list of the jargons found, and finding the meanings of each jargons found. Based on the observation, this research found that there were 14 jargons used by Barack ObamaÂ’s campaign for the US Presidential election. The meanings of the jargons deal with economy, military, health, science, national ethos, sport, law, culture, and education. It showed that Barack Obama would like to highlight common issues in society to persuade the voters to support him. The researcher hopes that the result of this research can be used as reference for readers who want to do research and share their knowledge to others about jargon. In addition, the result of this research may be used by other researchers and may be able to encourage them to carry out the similar studies.
