Abstract :
Social loafing is a persons tendency to reduce the effort spent when working on a task or project as a group compared to when working individually. One of the factors that influence social loafing is the self esteem factor. Individuals with high self esteem will be motivated to achieve seriously when with other people, especially when working ontasks or project that are classified as difficult. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between self esteem and social loafing in students of LSO members in technology at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Muhammadiyah Malang. The sampling technique uses a jenuh sampling at LSO Workshop Robotics, LSO Surya Team, and LSO mekatronic. The research subjects is 90 people. Data collection was done by using a scale of social loafing compiled by the research themselves based on the dimension of social loafing that has been proposed by Latane (1981) and the scale of self esteem compiled by Hidayati (2016) then modified by researchers. In the analysis test using product moment pearson correlation and there is a correlation coefficient (r) -0,416 with a significant (p) 0,000 < 0,05. The result shows that there is a significant negative relationship between self esteem and social loafing in students of LSO technology members. Self esteem contributes 17.3% of its contribution to LSO member’s social loafing.
