Abstract :
Background: Mangosteen peel has antioxidant type xanton for around 107.76 mg per 100 gram. The substance of these compounds have a natural antioxidant function, which has an anti-aging ability, preventing various diseases, and can delay the aging process and skin tissue damage. Peel-off mask prominence in its use, easily lifted, create a transparent and elastic film layer, so that it is comfortable to use. Research Objective: To figure out the PEG 1500 (1.5%, 2%, 2.5%) variation impact and PVA 18% toward physical characteristic (organoleptic, viscosity, drying time, and spreadability); chemical characteristic (pH) and peel-off mask of mangosteen peel’s extract stability and antioxidant activity (IC50) of mangosteen peel extract’s peel-off mask using DPPH method. Method: The preparation of mangosteen peel extract’s peel-off mask was made with PEG 1500 variation formula I (1.5%), formula II (2%), and formula III (2.5%). Evaluation of physical characteristic (organoleptic, homogeneity, viscosity, spreadability, and drying time), chemical characteristic (pH), and peel-off mask gel stability, were conducted. Result and Conclusion: From the research, it was obtained that PEG 1500 variation (1.5%, 2%, 2.5%) and PVA 18% on physical characteristic were brownish yellow organoleptic, had a distinctive scent, and smooth texture. There was no significant difference in homogeneity test, while viscosity test CPs FI (40.083), FII (39.250) and FIII (38.833), spreadability test (g/cm) FI (0.0820), FII (0.0852), FIII (0.0890), drying time test (minute) FI (962.00), FII (1007.33), FIII (1073.33) and pH test FI (5.52), FII (5.56), FIII (5.32). The result of stability test and freeze-thaw indicated that all of the prepared masks was stable and had no significant difference in organoleptic, while there was the difference in pH of prepared mask, but they were in the SNI range (4.5 – 8.0) that safe and not irritating the skin.
