Abstract :
Background: Green tea from the Camellia sinensis plant contains EGCG which is a class of catechins. EGCG in green tea has antioxidant activity around 25-100 times stronger than vitamin C and E. Catechins will have difficulty penetrating optimally when passing through the skin stratum corneum. So that gel preparations were made with the niosome system in which the niosome is a system of drug-carrying vesicles that is almost similar to liposomes. Niosomes are able to increase the penetration of the active ingredients of a transdermal preparation. The release of green tea using the niosome system will increase the efficacy of the potential of active ingredients and reduce toxic effects on the systemic. Objective: To find out the gel with different green tea extract niosomes (30%, 40%, and 50%) can provide preparations that are accepted and avoid irritation Method: Using the experimental method by comparing the three formulas with different niosome levels of green tea extract 30%, 40%, and 50%. Then the acceptability test results were analyzed by One Way Anova and irritation test using the HET-CAM method. Results and Conclusions: The results of organoleptic examinations on all formulas have a brown color, gel form and are flavorful of green tea. Preparations with niosome levels of 30% green tea extract are the best results of the three dosage formulas that can be seen from the test results of acceptability. Irritation tests on all formulas do not show any irritation to CAM.
