Abstract :
Background: Ultraviolet (UV) radiation, air pollution, and cigarette smoke are risk factors for the formation of free radicals. Green tea derived from the Camellia sinensis plant contains EGCG as an antioxidant to counteract free radicals with very strong intensity. This makes green tea very useful in protecting the body from oxidative damage from free radicals. So that gel preparations are made with the niosome system which can increase the penetration of the active ingredients of a preparation given transdermally and increase the efficacy of the potential of active ingredients and reduce toxic effects on the systemic. Objective: To get IC50 value from green tea extract (Camellia sinensis) and find out antioxidant activity in niosome gel extract of green tea (Camellia sinensis). Method: Using the experimental method by comparing the three formulas with the levels of formula I (FI) containing niosome extract of green tea (30%), Formula II (F2) containing niosome extract of green tea (40%) and Formula III (F3) containing niosome extract of green tea ( 50%) which was then tested for antioxidants and the results were analyzed by One Way Anova. Results and conclusions: The antioxidant test results obtained IC50 value in green tea extract (Camellia sinensis) of 45.56 ppm, and the antioxidant test results on F1(30%) niosome gel had a 10,04% inhibition value, F2 (40%) had a percentage inhibition of 17,49% and F3 (50%) has an inhibition percent value of 25.13%, which means that the increase of niosome content in the formula were followed by the antioxidants activity increase.
