Abstract :
This study was classroom action research. It was conducted at MI
Bustanul 'Ulum Jaya Sakti In the Academic year 2019/2020. The subject of the
survey is fifth grade. The study's objective was to know how local culture content
can improve students' vocabulary at fifth grade MI Bustanul 'Ulum Jaya Sakti in
2019/2020. The research was conducted in two cycles. The criterion of success of
the study is if students have a significant interest and motivation in learning
vocabulary based on local culture material and got the minimum standard of 70 as
KKM. In collecting the data, the researcher used interviews, observation, and
tests. In analyzing the data, the researcher applies descriptive statistics.
The test result showed that the average students score in the pre-cycle test
was 60.89%, which meant poor categories. In the first cycle, the students' test got
67.14%. Based on the result of the first cycle, it showed fair. In the second cycle,
students' difficulties got 82.32%. The development of the second cycle led well.
In addition, for students' responses in the process, 1 got 66%, and in the second
cycle, the students' responses got 80%.
Based on the findings, it can be concluded that inserting local culture
content is an excellent strategy to improving students' vocabulary mastery.
Therefore, it is recommended strategy that can be used as an alternative strategy
in teaching vocabulary.
