Abstract :
The objectives of the research were to know what are the kinds of interrogative sentence used by the students and what are the students' problems in constructing of interrogative sentence. The population of the research was the students of English Education department of Universitas Muhammadiyah Metro. The sampling technique of the research was purposive sampling technique. The research used one class of semester IV students of English Education department of Universitas Muhammadiyah Metro in academic year of 2019/ 2020. Based on the data analysis, some of researchers were conducted to analyze students' sentences in interrogative sentence and the students' problems. In this research, the writer focuses on simple present and past tense in students' interrogative sentence. The data showed that the students faced difficulties on determining of interrogative-word question and auxiliary verb of the pattern in sentences. In addition, based on the students' response, First, the students face difficulty on vocabulary. They were not familiar with the vocabulary. So that, they confused to determine the interrogative-word question and auxiliary verb. Second, the students could not the pattern of the sentence. They forgot about the pattern of interrogative sentence on simple present or simple past tense. Third, the students did not understand with the instruction and meaning of the sentence. So that, they could not change the sentence into interrogative sentence.
