Abstract :
This study aims to describe the level of ability to understanding students' concepts in solving mathematical problems based on SOLO Taxonomy, to find out the factors that influence students with a low-level understanding of concepts in solving mathematical problems based on SOLO Taxonomy and describe alternative solutions for students with understanding of the concept a low-level in solving mathematical problems based on SOLO Taxonomy. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The study was conducted at MTs Baiturrahman in Sukabumi City in class VII of the 2018/2019 school year. The subjects taken in this study were 6 students grouped into three categories, namely high, medium and low. Taking this subject using a purposive sampling technique. Data collection techniques used are observation, tests, and interviews. Data analysis techniques used are data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results of the study stated that (1) high-ability students were able to fulfill all indicators of understanding mathematical concepts and were able to reach the extended abstract level. Middle-ability can fulfill some indicators of understanding mathematical concepts and can reach multi-structural levels. Low-ability students can only able to meet one indicator of understanding mathematical concepts and can reach uni-structural levels. (2) factors that influence student's of understanding a mathematical concept low-level, namely internal and external factors. The internal factors of students include lack of student learning motivation, lack of confidence in students, lack of concentration in student learning during learning, low understanding of students because they are accustomed to memorizing. While the external factors of students include the lack of teachers in the use of learning methods. (3) alternative solutions for students who are able to understanding low-level mathematical concepts that provide motivation for students to study hard, explain the benefits of mathematics learning so students are encouraged to learn mathematics, improve the quality of learning that encourages students to be more active in learning, students must practice math problems so students able to understand each step of completion.
