Abstract :
Shrinkage is one of the main factors causing cracks in buildings. Shrinkage only occurs in building materials that use cement as one of the binding materials. Chemical shrinkage or commonly called plastic shrinkage is a change in the volume of paste caused by the hydration of cement material. The cement water factor is very influential on the shrinkage process. The greater the water cement ratio, the higher the decrease will be produced. This study aims to examine the behavior of chemical shrinkage in 5 brands of OPC type cement products namely Semen Tiga Roda, Holcim, SCG, Gresik and Merah Putih, with a ratio of cement water 0.3, 0.4 and 0.45. Shrinkage testing is carried out for 24 hours in accordance with ASTM C1608-12 guidelines. Compressive strength is one indicator of the quality of the mixture of building materials. High quality mixtures can be assessed from the resulting compressive strength of ? 40 Mpa. Testing of compressive strength is carried out on mortar specimens. The test results show that there is a difference in depreciation over a 24- hour period. OPC cement from Holcim with the use of 0.45 water cement ratio has the highest shrinkage value from other cement brands, which is 0.092 ml/gr. The highest chemical shrinkage with the use of 0.4 water cement ratio is the paste mixture with Holcim cement which is 0.066 ml/gr. The highest chemical shrinkage with cement water factor 0.3 is paste mixture with SCG cement which is 0.044 ml/gr. As for compressive strength with the highest value produced from mortar with a mixture of Tiga Roda cement with the use of water cement ratio 0.3 that is equal to 52.01 MPa. Compressive strength with the use of water cement ratio 0.4 is 45.68 MPa. While compressive strength with the use of water cement ratio 0.45 is 40.38 MPa. With this research, it can be concluded that the greater the water cement ratio, the greater the shrinkage produced. While the influence of water cement ratio on mortar compressive strength is the lower the water cement ratio the higher the compressive strength.
