Abstract :
This study aims to compare the students' critical thinking skills in mathematics using the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model and the direct learning model. The research method used is a quasi-experimental research method. The sampling technique used was cluster random sampling. Which resulted in the experimental class (class VII E) and the control class (class VII F) in SMP Negeri 8 Kota Sukabumi, each of which consisted of 36 students and 38 students. The test instrument used was an instrument of mathematical critical thinking ability. Test instruments in the form of content validation, reliability, level of difficulty and differentiation. The method of data collection is done through tests and observations. The data analysis technique used is the normality test using the Liliefors test, the homogeneity test using the Barlett test, to test the hypothesis using the t test of two insependent samples with a significant level of 5%. The results of the study concluded that the mathematical critical thinking ability of students who obtained the Learning Based Learning (PBL) model was better than the ability to understand the mathematical concepts of students who obtained the direct learning model.
