Abstract :
The use of plastic continues to increase in the community environment and if it is not used it will become plastic waste that is difficult to decompose. Therefore, bioplastic films have been made from corn cellulose by adding sorbitol and chitosan as environmentally friendly plastic or biodegradable plastic. The purpose of this study is to synthesize bioplastic films and characterize them with biodegrability tests, water resistance tests, FTIR and UTM (Universal Testing Mechine). Bioplastic films were synthesized with cellulose which added variations in the concentration of sorbitol (3, 5 and 7 mL) and variations in the concentration of chitosan (2, 3 and 4%). The results of the characterization of bioplastic films with the best performance are the addition of 7 mL sorbitol with a percentage of chitosan 4% with the result of 4.27 kgf / mm2 for tensile strength, 14% for elongation, percentage for water resistance of 90.6%, and positive friendly environment with biodegradability of bioplastic films as a whole for 6 days. Bioplastic films have the spectrum of the -OH group (3450.65 cm-1) with strain vibration, strain vibration -CH (2924.09-2860.43 cm-1) and wave number 1600.92 cm-1 with NH bending vibrations of NH2 (amide).
