Abstract :
Biogas is alternative energy sourced from organic material in the form of waste, biodegradable waste, and metabolic waste from humans and animals. This study aims to analyze the effect of adding bamboo shoots on biogas production from cow dung to the volume of biogas and methane gas levels produced, carried out through anaerobic fermentation process for 32 days and biogas volume measured every 4 days intervals. The parameters used are measurements of Total Solid (TS), Total Volatile Solid (TVS), Total Volatile Fatty Acid (TVFA), pH, C/N ratio, and methane gas analysis by gas chromatography. The sample measured consisted of cow dung (K), and the addition of bamboo shoots in cow dung (R: K) with 5 variations namely R: K 20:80; 40:60; 50:50; 60:40; and 80:20. The measurement results showed that the biggest decrease in TS value was cow dung by 67.60 g/kg, TVS at R: K 20:80 which was 61.63 g/kg, and TVFA cow dung by 20.33 mL/g, with pH 7 and C/N ratio 23.73. Based on gas chromatography analysis, it is known that the highest methane gas content in the R: K mixture occurs at R: K 50:50. As for R: K 20:80, 40; 60, and 50:50 there was no significant decrease in methane gas levels, in contrast to the methane gas levels in R: K 60:40 and 80:20 which decreased. The addition of bamboo shoots in biogas production from cow dung with different C/N mixture of ratios can affect the methane gas levels and the quality of the biogas produced. Denitrification occurs as occurs in R: K 50:50, 60:40, and 80:20 due to the low C/N ratio.
