Abstract :
This research is entitled Symbol in The Songs by John Lennon. The purpose of the research is to identify symbol meaning of the lyrics. The method applied in the research is qualitative descriptive analysis by semiotics approach. The relevan theory applied is type of symbol Pickering & Hoeper (In Minderop 2005) and the last theory aspect of meaning according to Shipley (1962), palmer (dalam Fatimah 2013) and Pateda (2010). Based on research result, it is found three types of symbol which are private symbol, natural symbol, and blank symbol. And it is found aspect meaning of sense, aspect meaning of feeling which are sad feeling, and happy feeling. Aspect meaning of tone which are high tone and low tone. and also aspect meaning of intention which are implore and order.
