Abstract :
Background : A DM diet that is run properly can help control blood sugar levels. Therefore, more knowledge about diabetes mellitus diet is needed. This in-depth knowledge certainly has a crucial role in shaping the compliance behavior of people with diabetes mellitus in carrying out a diet program. Objective : This study aims to analyze and determine the relationship between the length of time patients suffer from diabetes mellitus with the level of knowledge of the elderly about diabetes mellitus diet at Prolanis Puskesmas Kartasura. Methods : This research is a quantitative type using a cross sectional approach. The number of samples contained in this study were 50 respondents with accidental sampling technique. Questionnaires are used in collecting data, where this questionnaire has been made by researchers who have been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis used Chi Square test with p<0.05. Results : The majority of respondents were elderly who had suffered from DM for more than 5 years (64%), most of the respondents had sufficient knowledge about the DM diet with a total of 27 people (80%). The majority of respondents in this study had good knowledge with a length of suffering more than five years with p <0.05 and r = 0.681. Conclusion : There is a relationship between the length of suffering with the knowledge of the elderly about the DM diet (p = 0.01). Suggestion: It is better to give routine information by nurses to patients related to DM, especially in how to do a suitable diet, so that DM patients can always be motivated to diet properly.
