Abstract :
Nutrition students have competencies related to nutrition and health. Consequently, there is responsibility for nutrition students to evaluate their body, thus as form the body images. Body image (BI) that is formed can affect energy intake (EI). Negative BI may lead to bad eating behavior, namely inadequate EI (less or more) and can endanger health, while positive BI tends to consume energy as needed to maintain health. This research aimed to determine correlation between body image and energy intake in students of Department of Nutrition Science of Faculty of Health Sciences of Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. This was a cross-sectional study. Simple random sampling was used to select 93 subjects from 2-4 years of nutrition students. Subjects were asked to complete Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ) to asses body image. Energy intake was obtained by food record on 2 weekdays and 1 weekend in one week. The Person?s Product Moment was applied in this research. The result showed that 29% of samples had a negative body image, including the category of energy intake such as 21,5% very less, 6,5% less, and 1,1% normal. Subjects of 70% had a positive body image, including energy intake category were 41,9% very less, 26,9% less, and 2,2% normal. Based on the correlation analysis test obtained p value = 0,756 (p>0,05). There was no correlation between body image and energy intake in students of Department of Nutrition Science of Faculty of Health Sciences of Muhammadiyah Surakarta.
