Abstract :
Drought is a type of hydrometeorological disaster in which an area will experience a shortage of water supply for a long period of time. Kulon Progo Regency is one of the areas that often experience drought disasters in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. Kulon Progo Regency in 2019 was declared a drought emergency response area, because that year there were 8,317 people affected by the drought and 378 hectares of agricultural land were damaged. This study aims to determine the distribution of drought-prone areas in Kulon Progo Regency and determine the dominant parameters that affect the level of drought. This research was conducted using a weighted tiered quantitative approach using 4 parameters, namely land use, Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), soil type, and rainfall. Based on the results of this study, it was found that the drought-prone areas in Kulon Progo Regency were divided into 3 classes, namely high, medium, and low classes. The high drought-prone area has an area of 15.102 Ha or 22,20 % of the area which is spread in the southern part or in the coastal part of Kulon Progo Regency. The moderate drought-prone area has an area of 30.512 Ha or 52,04 % of the area which is spread in the central part of Kulon Progo Regency. The low drought-prone area has an area of 13.014 Ha or 25,76 % of the area which is spread in the western part or in the hilly part of Kulon Progo Regency. The dominant parameter that greatly influences the determination of drought-prone areas in Kulon Progo Regency is land use, because this parameter has the highest total value of other parameters.
