Abstract :
Tanjungpinang City is the capital city of the Riau Archipelago Province. On January 6, 1784 is the anniversary of the city of Tanjungpinang which has been determined by the government of the city of Tanjungpinang. This date is the culmination of the war between the Riau-Lingga Sultanate and the Dutch. Tanjungpinang City has the potential for tourism development located on Penyengat Island. Penyengat Island is a relic of the heyday of the Islamic Sultanate of Riau ? Lingga (1828 - 1911) which is thick with Malay culture and nuances of history, education and religion. Penyengat Village or Penyengat Island is designated as a National Cultural Conservation Area in the Ministerial Decree No. 112/M/2018. Therefore, with this potential, to increase tourism in the Penyengat Island area, it needs to be redeveloped through a design that can accommodate local and foreign communities in Malay arts and cultural activities. Given that Penyengat Island is very strong in terms of customs, arts, culture, and adheres to Islam, Penyengat Island requires the development and preservation of cultural values through the design of a Malay Cultural Arts Center on Penyengat Island as a forum for various activities for the local community and outsiders. With the Symbolism Architecture approach, the design will be shown through an iconic design and become an image of Malay culture that represents a building.
