Abstract :
The aim of this research is to portray the representation of masculinity through Massimo Torricelli as the main character in 356 Days (2020) movie. This research reveal the signs of masculinity on the main character Massimo Torricelli according to the seven concepts of masculinity by Janet Saltzman Chafetz that are appearance, physical, functional, sexual, emotion, intellectual, interpersonal, and personal character. This research is using qualitative descriptive method. The object of this research is the sign and the meaning of the scene along with the dialogue on the movie that related with masculinity. The sample under research is the main character Massimo Torricelli in 365 Days (2020). The data collection technique obtained from several ways through observation and documentation. In the validity of the data, the researcher carried out the validity of the data with triangulation technique. The data analysis technique used in this research is semiotic analysis by Roland Barthes which has some processes of denotation, connotation, and myth. The results obtained from this research can be concluded that Massimo Torricelli has six of seven masculinity concepts by Janet Saltzman Chafetz, which cover (1) physical appearance: manly, atletic, strong, (2) Functional, become the head of the family as breadwinner and support for the family, (3) Sexual, heterosexual and have an interest and concern for woman, (4) Intellectual, have a rational thought, objective, and logical, (5) Interpersonal, independent, domineering and brave to take risks, (6) Personal character, ambitious and egocentric.
