Abstract :
Children need public spaces that help their growth and development process at the golden age through various and fun stimulations. However, limited land and space at home as well as lack of knowledge and awareness of parents are often causing the neglect of children's potential period. Research shows that parents who work more than 30 hours / week affect the child's cognitive, mental, emotional, social and independence functions (Han, 2011). According to Pekanbaru data in 2022, 9.75% of the population is classified as an early age, namely 0-4 years or around 96,972 people. This is quite large considering the lack of public facilities that consider the condition of children as one of the building users. Child-friendly buildings in Pekanbaru are only available at RSIA and playgrounds (pre-school). UUNumber 20 of 2003 concerning the National Education System Chapter IV Article 19 Point 1 requires the learning process to be carried out interactively, inspiring and fun. According to Fabiola (2010), children's right brain development can be trained with art. Public facilities that are able to facilitate children in the appropriate growth anddevelopment process are museums and art galleries. The design of Museum and art gallery aims to facilitate the needs of children using the Child Friendly Spaces (CFS) approach by UNICEF in 1999. This approach is able to lead museums and art galleries to become child-friendly buildings with 6 Main Principles of CFS including: (1) CFS as a Safe and Protected Place for Children (2) CFS as Provider of a Supportive and Stimulating Environment for Children (3) CFS with Passive Partition Approach for Design and Implementation (4) CFS provides integrated support services and programs (5) CFS is open and non-discriminatory (6) CFS is built on Structure in Society. Keywords: museum, gallery, child-friendly, Pekanbaru.
