Abstract :
The aging process is divided into two classifications, namely natural aging and artificial aging. Natural aging or what is usually called natural aging is an aging process used on aluminum alloy materials which takes place at room temperature between 20ºC - 30ºC with a holding time of 1 day or more. Meanwhile, artificial aging is an aging process for aluminum alloys that takes place with a shorter holding time than natural aging. This research used car wheel rim materials where after chemical composition tests were carried out the results were aluminum (Al) of 93.55% and silicon (Si) of 5.91%. The research was carried out by cutting the specimen into several parts. After that, the specimen was subjected to solution treatment at a temperature of 500 ºC, held for 1 hour and quenched using water. After that, the specimen was reheated using the artificial aging method with a temperature of 100 ºC and a holding time of 30, 60, and 90 minutes. In microstructure testing, it was found that there was quite a lot of porosity which generally took the form of round, hollow points produced by the deposition of hydrogen from free air during the cooling process on aluminum. In hardness testing, the raw material specimen value was 47.6 HRB, the specimen artificially aged for 30 minutes was 38.2 HRB, the specimen artificially aged for 60 minutes was 28.0 HRB, the specimen artificially aged for 90 minutes amounting to 26.0 HRB.
