Abstract :
This study aims to know the symptomps of stress and coping strategies
used by inmates of murder cases in Panitentiary Class 1 Malang. The method
used in this study is qualitative research with data collection techniques in the
form of interviews and observations. The subjects in this study amounted to two
inmates of murder cases with sentences of more than 10 years in prison and had
served a minimum sentence of one year. The validity test of the data is done by
triangulation method. The results of this study indicate that the two research
subjects experienced symptoms of physiological stress, emotional, cognitive and
social behavior. The difference lies in physiological symptoms more experienced
by first subject while emotional symptoms are more experienced by second
subject. In the first subject, coping strategy that is most widely used is positive
appraisal which involves religious aspects such as worship and prayer. Whereas
in the second subject there is no attempt to obtain the comfort and calm that he
previously gained. The strategies used by the second subject included in the
portrait coping, with this coping the individual tried to hold himself back until the
right opportunity to do something came.
