Abstract :
This study conducted to analyze the presupposition used in the dialogues of the main characters in the king?s speech movie. Presupposition is interpreted byconsidering context that exist in thesituation when the utterance is happening inorder to find out the intended meaning of the speaker to get information.Particularly, this studi is aimed at explaining: (1) the types of presupposition usedin the dialogues of the main characters in the king?s speech movie, and (2) themeaning of the presupposition. The researcher uses a qualitative method andcontent analysis in order to get descriptive information. The data of this research isthe king?s speech movie script which limited on the utterance that contain typespresupposition. The data are collected by (1) Downloading the king?s speech moviefrom website https;//pahe.in, (2) Wactching the king?s speech movie, (3) Typingthe english manuscript, (4) Verifying the script to check the accuratness. While theprocedure of the data analysis are (1) Sellecting the utterances that contain presupposition, (2) Classifying the utterances based on the types of presupposition,(3) Calculating the precentage of the utterances that contain presupposition, (4)Interpreting the utterances that contain presupposit ion. Based on Yule?s theory,there are six types of presupposition that is existential presupposition, lexicalpresupposition, structural presupposition, counterfactual presupposition, factivepresupposition, and non-factive presupposition. The most frequency ofpresupposition is existential presupposition with the total 7 data out of 23 data(30%), the second is counterfactual presupposition with the total 6 data out of 23data (26%). The third is the structural presupposition with the total 5 data out of 23data (23%). The fourth is factive presupposition with the total 3 data out of 23 data(13%). The last type of presupposition is the lexical presupposition and non-factivepresupposition. Each only has 1 data out of 23 data (8%). The implied meanings inthe conversation are gained by analyzing the context because in pragmatic study,context is essential to figure out the implied meaning.
