Abstract :
Acne vulgaris (acne) is a disease that occurs when the pilosebaceous unit in the skin gets inflamed. Generally, acne can be found in all ranges of age with various clinical manifestations such as papule, pustule, nodule, and cyst. Propionibacterium acnes is known as normal flora in human skin, but in certain conditions, this bacterium can be hyperproliferative and cause an inflammation that leads to acne. Because of this plant?s main content, which is andrographolide, sambiloto (Andrographis paniculata Nees) known as a plant that has a lot of benefits, one of them is an antimicrobial agent. Besides andrographolide, sambiloto does have other contents such as saponin, alkaloid, flavonoid, tannin, paniculin, and kalmegin. The aim of this study is to know the effect of giving a sambiloto leaf extract on the diameter of inhibition of the Propionibacterium acnes. This is a laboratory experimental study and was conducted with a post-test only control group design. The population of this study is Propionibacterium acnes in a Mueller Hinton agar as it?s media with the total amount of sample are 24 and divided into 4 groups. Disc diffusion was used as a method in this study. The study showed that in any sambiloto leaf extract concentrations (25%, 50%, and 75%) there is no inhibition zone that can be found, which concludes there's no effect of giving a sambiloto leaf extract on the diameter of the Propionibacterium acnes.
