Abstract :
(ABSTRAKSI) Telah dilakukan sintesis Co-doped TiO2 (Co-TiO2) menggunakan metode
sol gel.
Seluruh sampel
dikarakterisasi menggunakan Diffuse Reflectance UV-Visible Spectroscopy
(DR-UV), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy with Energy
Dispersive X-Ray (SEM EDX), X-Ray Fluoresence (XRF) dan Transmission
Electron Microscopy (TEM).

method. Preparation of the sol-gel method was done by mixing titanium
isopropoxide (TTIP) with ethanol and CoCl2.6H2O with various concentrations of
0.5;1.0; 1.5; 2.0; 2.5; 3.0 wt%. The variations of calcination temperature were
done by using Co dopant 3 wt% at 300, 400, 500, 600 and 700°C. The variations
pH solution of 3% Co dopant were done by adding the acid or base to adjust the
pH at 1.5; 3; 5; 7 and 9. As control experiment, undoped TiO2 was synthesized
using the same method without CoCl2.6H2O addition. All samples were
characterized by Diffuse Reflectance UV-Visible Spectroscopy (DR-UV), X-Ray
Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy with Energy Dispersive X-Ray
(SEM EDX), X-Ray Fluoresence (XRF) and Transmission Electron Microscopy
(TEM).
The DR-UV results, all Co-TiO2 samples with various concentrations have
better absorption in the visible light and a smaller band gap than that of undoped
TiO2. The smallest band gap was obtained by the concentration of Co 3% wt%
dopant with the Eg of 3.06 eV. The XRD result showed that the higher
temperature of calcination resulted in the transformation of crystal phase into
rutile phase that will lead to the increase of crystal size. Co2+ ion has been
successfully doped into TiO2 that confirmed by the detection of Co on the SEM
EDX (0.49% atom) and XRF (1.2%). Variation in pH will affect the number of
Co2+ species formed thus will affect the Eg value of Co-TiO2. TEM results
showed that particle size of Co-TiO2 powder (11.88 nm) has smaller than TiO2
(17.01 nm). From all characterized samples, it could be concluded that Co-TiO2
materials synthesized by sol gel method have a better character than undoped
TiO2.
