Abstract :
Poetry is an old literature whose message still relevant to this day. This study elaborates on the
value of prophetic communication which is a derivative of the Kuntowijoyo Prophetic Social
Sciences in a poem entitled Gurindam 12 which contains twelve couplets with different themes by
Raja Ali Haji, originating from Penyengat Island, Kepulauan Riau Province. This poem is
examined through the semiotic analysis of Ferdinand de Saussure. Semiotics of Ferdinand de
Saussure was taken because of its unlimited time characteristic. Ferdinand's semiotic principles
examined in this study are the principle of signified, significant, iconic, arbiter which will also be
elaborated on matters relating to the value of prophetic communication. The value elements of
prophetic communication used are humanization (amar ma'ruf) relating to humanizing humanity,
liberation (nahi munkar) relating to preventing munkar and deliverance, and transcendence
(tu'minuna billah) believing in Allah who returns everything to Al-Qur'an and As-Sunnah.
Although it does not explicitly mention verses and surahs in the Qur'an, a total of eight couplets
fall into the category of Prophetic Communication in this poem. The value of the poem contains a
lot of humanization in terms of society, followed by liberation and transcendence.
