ABSTRACT This study aims at knowing 1) administrative information systems and the role in strategic policy making in the academic internal of Brawijaya University. 2) Strategies used for administrative information systems at Brawijaya University. 3) Problems and Challenges had in administrative information systems at Brawijaya University. To implement the purposes of study, the researcher carried out interview to the samples, whoa are the subjects in charge of administrative information systems and administrative policy makers. The researcher implemented a qualitative research method. The findings showed that 1) administrative information systems contributed to the process of decision making through a high quality of information provision processes in terms of correctness, accuracy, and comprehension. The provision of means and infrastructures was also integrated by basing on the highest office at each level of the policy making. 2) The university had developed strategies for administrative information systems to ensure the implementation of University?s visions, missions and objectives by designing strategies for administrative information systems. This was included in the part of general strategies, as well as the improvement and the implementation of the objectives. 3) There were no extern trainings and special qualifications in the fields of information and data analysis. This was due to the presence of training programs and development for the officers of administrative information systems which only provided intern training programs. The reason was extern programs and qualified qualifications required special cost and budget while the university had limited funds. ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui 1) Sistem informasi administratif dan perannya dalam pengambilan kebijakan strategis di internal Universitas Brawijaya. 2) Strategi yang digunakan untuk sistem informasi administratif di Universitas Brawijaya. 3) Kendala dan tantangan yang dihadapi oleh sistem informasi administratif di Universitas Brawijaya. Untuk merealisasikan tujuan penelitian diatas, peneliti melakukan interview terhadap sampel penelitian, dalam hal ini adalah penanggung jawab dari sistem infomasi administratif dan pengambil kebijakan administratif. Peneliti menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa 1) Sistem informasi administratif berkontribusi terhadap proses pengambilan keputusan melalui proses penyedian informasi yang berkualitas tinggi dari sisi kebenaran, keakuratan dan komprehensif. Serta penyediaan sarana dan prasarana yang terpadu dengan cara berpijak pada kantor tertingi dalam setiap level pengambilan kebijakan. 2) Universitas telah membuat strategi untuk sistem informasi administratif guna menjamin terwujudnya visi, misi dan tujuan universitas dengan cara penyusunan strategi untuk sistem informasi administratif. Dan hal itu termasuk dari bagian strategi umum, serta penyempurna dan realisasi dari tujuan tersebut. 3) tidak terdapat pelatihan ektern dan kulifikasi yang khusus di bidang informasi dan analisis data, hal itu kembali kepada progam pelatihan dan pengembangan bagi para pegawai sistem informasi administratif yang hanya mencakup progam pelatihan intern. Hal ini disebabkan oleh progam ekstren dan kulifikasi yang berkualitas dalam bidang ini membutuhkan biaya dan anggaran khusus. Sedangkan universitas mempunyai keterbatasan dana.
