ABSTRACT Independent character aims to meet its own needs without the help of another person by way of original thinking / creative, and full of initiative. Therefore, it is important to be owned by the younger generation with the increase in their independent character and build self-contained positive character so as to avoid negative acts. Character education can be integrated into all subjects in school. General subjects based inexact can also be integrated by the character education that have significance in the study. One of the subjects that can be integrated into mathematics education is character. Mathematics is a science that is structured and organized can also be integrated into the education of character. This will make the learning of mathematics will be more meaningful and useful in berkehidupan in society. One solution is a method that can be applied to the study of mathematics is a method of Contextual Teaching Learning (CTL). This method has become a learning model that is widely used by educators in various fields of study. Therefore, the researchers conducted experiments on Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) Toward Improved Independent Character and Achievement in the field of mathematics studies. The description of the data showed that the average value of pre-test the experimental class is 55,74 with a highest value of 70,00 and the lowest value of 35.00, but after learning using contextual teaching mathematics based learning (CTL) with the average earned -rata learning achievement at 88,14 with a highest value of 100.00 and the lowest value of 75.00. This proves an increase learning achievement that occurred before and after treatment. Results of an independent character study explains that students become more developed independently related to daily financial management in the school environment. So the minor hypothesis is accepted that there is influence of the application based on contextual teaching mathematics learning (CTL) against the students' independence ABSTRAK Karakter mandiri bertujuan untuk memenuhi kebutuhannya sendiri tanpa bantuan orang lain dengan cara berfikir original/kreatif, dan penuh inisiatif. Oleh sebab itu, penting untuk dimiliki oleh generasi muda dengan meningkatkan karakter mandiri dalam mereka serta membangun karakter mandiri yang positif sehingga terhindar dari perbuatan-perbuatan yang negatif. Pendidikan karakter dapat diintegrasikan ke dalam semua mata pelajaran yang ada di sekolah. Mata pelajaran umum yang berbasis eksak juga dapat dintegrasikan oleh pendidikan karakter supaya memiliki kebermaknaan dalam belajar. Salah satu mata pelajaran yang bisa diintegrasikan ke dalam pendidikan karakter adalah matematika. Matematika merupakan ilmu pengetahuan yang terstruktur dan terorganisir dapat pula diintegrasikan ke dalam pendidikan karakter. Hal ini akan menjadikan pembelajaran matematika akan lebih bermakna dan bermanfaat dalam berkehidupan dalam masyarakat. Salah satu solusinya yaitu metode yang dapat diterapkan pada pembelajaran matematika adalah metode contextual teaching learning (CTL). Metode ini sudah menjadi model pembelajaran yang banyak dipakai oleh pendidik pada berbagai bidang studi. Hasil deskripsi data menunjukan bahwa nilai rata-rata pre test pada kelas eksperimen yaitu 55,74 dengan nilai tertinggi 70,00 dan nilai terendah 35,00, namun setelah melakukan pembelajaran dengan menggunakan metode pembelajaran matematika berbasis contextual teaching learning (CTL) dengan diperoleh rata-rata prestasi belajar matematika sebesar 88,14dengan nilai tertinggi 100,00 da
