ABSTRACT Each poem contains elements of high imagination, beautiful diction, style and meaning are interrelated to one another. Language as the medium used in poetry is regarded as a sign system that has a distinctive meaning, unique, and can not be translated carelessly. In this study, researcher examined a poetry whih was created by eminent islamic poet, Abdurrahman Saleh Al- asymawi, under the title Hiya Ummiy, using Michael Rifaterre semiotic theory. Based on the problems posed by researcher about Poetry Hiya Ummi Created by Abdurrahman Saleh Al- asymawi, the elements of research problems here are: how undirect expression of Poetry Hiya Ummi Created by Abdurrahman Saleh Al- asymawi, and how about the meanings contained in Poetry Hiya Ummi Created by Abdurrahman Saleh Al- asymawi. The approach used in this study accordance with the formulation of the problems posed by researcher to answer it. Researcher using Michael Rifaterre semiotic theory. This research included in this type of research library because the data sources obtained from the books, papers, journals, etc. Data analysis techniques in this study qualitative research with descriptive analysis. Generally, library research using qualitative methodes, this method produces descriptive data in the form of words written oe spoken by the subject under study. The results obtained by researcher namely, indirect forms of expression in poetry Hiya Ummiy created by Abdur Rahman al-Ashmawi which there are replacement of meaning, meaning configuration, and externalization of meaning. While the meaning of "She was my mother who walks in the world, passed hard road for the soul, which is tough for the heart, like the release of the soul from the body, but we are willing with the provisions of Allah, our faith in Him the Almighty, we are willing, our greatest hope in Him, the Most Holy One who always cast his mercy ABSTRAK Setiap puisi mengandung unsur imajinasi yang tinggi, diksi yang indah, gaya bahasa dan makna yang saling berkaitan satu sama lain. Bahasa sebagai medium yang digunakan dalam puisi dianggap sebagai sebuah system tanda yang memiliki makna khas, unik, dan tidak bisa diterjemahkan secara asal- asalan. Pada penelitian ini, peneliti mengkaji sebuah syair karya seorang penyair islami yang ulung, Abdurrahman Saleh Al- asymawi, yang berjudul Hiya Ummi, dengan menggunakan metode semiotik Michael Riffaterre. Berdasarkan permasalah yang diajukan peneliti yakni syair Hiya Ummi karya Abdurrahman Saleh Al- asymawi, dari unsur-unsur permasalahan dalam syair tersebut,peneliti mengajukan beberapa rumusan masalah penelitian, yakni: bagaimana bentuk ekspresi tidaklangsung dari syair Hiya Ummi Karya Abdurrahman Saleh Al- asymawi dan bagaimana makna yang terkandung dalam syair Hiya Ummi Karya Abdurrahman Saleh Al- asymawi dengan Pembacaan Heuristik dan Pembacaan Retroaktif. Adapun Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini sesuai dengan rumusan masalah yang diajukan peneliti untuk menjawabnya. Peneliti menggunakan pendekatan teori Semiotik Michael Rifaterre Penelitian ini termasuk dalam jenis penelitian pustaka (Library Research) karena sumber data diperoleh dari buku- buku,
